On July 8, 2026, the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners carried a motion for a temporary freeze on accepting revisions and approval of any data center applications for a period of 12 months, by a vote of 5–0. The motion was made under an agenda item to receive an update on hyperscale data center facilities, for which the cover memo stated that no action was required. It was a Board motion, not an ordinance, and no moratorium ordinance had been adopted as of the verification date shown above.
